I just “can’t be assed” (meaning: can’t be bothered. Say it with an English accent, it sounds better that way: “cahn’t be ahssed”) to write an update. I don’t feel like enough exciting things have gone on in the last few days to warrant an entire entry. Meh. Things are good, no worries, I’m just feeling lazy.
I’m in Wellington, the capital city of NZ. I’m living with Kate Baker (George’s cousin, from New Year’s) and her three flatmates in a spacious, colorful, and totally post-university flat. Kate’s got the same degree that I do (English and theater), and her roommates are equally artsy: Sam and Hadleigh (Kate’s BF) are theater kids as well, and have just started a second bachelor’s degree specifically in theater (they’re actors). Angus (Hadleigh’s brother) is a painter whose work is hanging all over the apartment. Yay art kids! I didn’t realize how much I’d missed the college apartment sort of atmosphere, but it’s great to be back in it. I’ve been spending so much time with families, or people older than me or with very different backgrounds/lifestyles. It’s nice to just chill out and watch movies and drama award programs and listen to music and eat cheap takeaway food and quote movies like “Napolean Dynamite” or “I Heart Huckabees” and make jokes about art and music and go to themed parties and, and, and…yep, I’ve been missing this. I’m sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the living room, underneath a poster of “The Life Aquatic.” I was supposed to be here for just a few days, but a few days has quickly become a week and a half. I do have a date set to sail to the South Island, though, so next Tuesday I’ll be off again.
